12 Feb Engagement Session with Colored Smoke Bombs – Sahil & Natasha

Every couple has a unique story of how they met and it’s so warming to see how that story has blossomed. Sahil and Natasha’s story began a few years ago, when they met in San Francisco. This city now means a lot to them so they wanted to take their wedding engagement photos along the coast in San Francisco. But because the photos turned out really cool in the end, I have a feeling that this was the first of many color smoke bomb photography sessions for me. Initially, the couple mentioned they wanted to take photos in nature and by the shoreline. When we got there, we took a few snaps but then I noticed some huge rocks in the background. In my mind, I conjured an image of how the rocks will provide the perfect contrast for the color bombs the couple brought along for some fun shots. We all went on a mini hike and once we got to the rocks, we also noticed some artistic graffiti on the rocks. Using all the props nature (and other artists) presented to us, I got right to work. This was my first shoot working with color bombs so I honestly did not know what to expect. I was worried the wind in SF wouldn’t allow us to capture much of the color bombs but coincidentally, the weather that day was very still and perfect. Also, I noticed that the color bombs created a haze in the distance and we incorporated that too into our shoot. As you can see in the final photos, the haze added a perfect touch to the romantic evening and allowed me to shoot elegant and intimate photos of these lovebirds. Enjoy this Indian Engagement Session with Color Bombs!...

07 Nov Destination Wedding in Napa Valley – Chris & Anna

All around the word, brides dream about their big day and a Destination Wedding in Napa Valley is an ultimate fairytale for many couples. They envision saying "I do" on the beautiful hilltops of the world-renown wine country. For one couple, this fairytale came to life and we were honored to capture their most tender and silly moments on their wedding day. Chris and Anna traveled from Los Angeles, California for their July wedding in the Wine Country Inn & Restaurant Madrona Manor. Their family and wedding guests flew from all over the U.S. to celebrate their wedding day in a grand estate mansion surrounded by enchanted gardens nestled into a beautiful hilltop of the Napa Valley vineyards. Though I have photographed several weddings here before, Madrona Manor is still one of my favorite wedding venues to photograph for the natural and effortless beauty it offers....

19 Oct Engagement Session in Lands End – Raj & Simran

San Francisco is a city full of beautiful, exotic photography spots and every time I have an engagement session planned in this city, I get very excited. One of my favorite locations on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean is Lands End which is on the northwest part of the island by Point Lobos. The sutro baths that once stood there (destroyed by a fire in 1966) are now monumental ruins perfect for a gorgeous engagement session. Raj & Simran have never been to the Lands End area and were very excited to pose in this beautiful San Francisco photography spot. Their Lands End engagement session lasted until the sun went down and we definitely used the beautiful San Francisco sunset skies to our advantage. I took out my Canon off-camera flash and created some creative lighting portraits positioning the couple on the rocks of the beach. The sky was very moody that evening because of the Napa Valley fires that were unfortunately happening not too far away. Usually, a foggy looking sunset doesn't get photographers too excited, but I used this hazy look to my advantage to create a soft, romantic look with the flash making the couple stand out a little. Here are the beautiful results from this Lands End engagement photo session....

19 May Indian Engagement Session in Sausalito – Sunit & Priti

Every couple has a place and time in their memory of how they met and what they did together for the first time together. Sunit took Priti on their first date to Scoma’s restaurant in Sausalito for a delicious dinner and their love story started from there. I’ve photographed at Sausalito before but this time it was super special as I saw the connection of this couple to many of the places we would stop and shoot at. ...

01 Feb Classic Indian Engagement Photography – Pardeep & Lovepreet

This Indian Engagement Photography session looks like it's straight out of an Indian movie. Gorgeous colors and outfits and the perfect mix of candid, posed and even glamour photos. The couple, from the Bay Area, wanted me to capture engagement photos with an unique classic Indian look. I took on that challenge and I think we pulled it off perfectly. We chose San Francisco, California for our location as it has a few of my favorite spots and also a great variety of scenery to work with. In these photos, you will see both nature and city photos. We planned for 4 different shoot ideas: a classic Indian look, a casual look with balloons, a romantic scene with props and a glamour shoot to finish off the day.I'm sure you will enjoy this Indian Engagement Session and you'll find it as the perfect inspiration for your own engagement photos....

21 May Vlad & Diana | El Dorado Engagement Session

As soon as I met Vlad & Diana, we became good friends and working with this beautiful couple became more of a pleasure rather than work. When we were deciding on an engagement shoot day and location, we didn't foresee the fact that our chosen day would be so cloudy and rainy. This did not scare any of us as the couple saw my previous work and knew that I have dealt in unforeseen situations before and have always come up with great results. During the beginning of our photo shoot we went to the Palladio in El Dorado Hills, CA and found some shelter from the rain using umbrellas and any covering we could find. Once the rain calmed down and the beautiful huge clouds became visible, we hunted for a perfect field, climbed over some barbed wire, stepped over some cow dung and finally reached the top of a beautiful hill with a perfectly placed oak tree at the top of it. Enjoy the results I got from this beautiful El Dorado Engagement Session....

07 May Roop & Mandeep | Indian Engagement Session in S.F.

San Francisco is one of the most gorgeous cities in the world and one of my favorite places to visit. When Roop and Mandeep told me that they wanted to do their engagement photos there, I could barely hold in my excitement. On the scheduled day of the photoshoot, as I was waiting in a Starbucks with my assistant for the day Olga to meet with my new friends and clients to carpool together to San Francisco, the rare California rain clouds came out of their hiding and started pouring the much needed water that Sacramento has been praying for. We couldn't reschedule the shoot because that was the only rare free weekend for me and for the couple, so we decided to still go ahead and face the unpredictable weather of San Francisco. The drive to San Francisco was a long one and a wet one. As we were driving and listening to Indian music, I honestly was brainstorming and trying to think of places with roofs where we can hide from the rain. With all the time that was put into Roop's traditional outfit, hair and makeup, we definitely couldn't just walk out and get everything wet right away. As we parked in Golden Gate Park, we took out our umbrellas and I started shooting the gorgeous couple under the roof of the Music Concourse in San Francisco's beautiful Golden Gate Park. I started shooting playful photos to loosen them up when all of a sudden the rain calmed down and we breathed a sigh of relief. That's when we put down our umbrellas, lifted our spirits and created some amazing photos with this gorgeous couple. ...

20 Aug Faythe & Josh – Fresno Wedding Photography

Photographing weddings of past friends is always special because you get to remember the good old days you had in the past. Faythe went to Albert Einstein Middle School and West Campus High School with my brother Vitaliy and I in the early 2000's and we were all good friends. When she called us and told us that she was getting married in Fresno, we were happy that she thought to invite us to her wedding. But that is not exactly why she called. She told us that she has been following our artistic work after high school, fell in love with our work and wanted to hire us to photograph and film her wedding. We were very excited to hear that we would not only be guests at her wedding, but would have the opportunity to tell of her wedding day through photos and a beautiful wedding film (Fresno wedding photography). Here is how her and Josh's beautiful wedding day went. Enjoy the photos!...

05 Apr Making an Impact – A missionary trip to Mexicali

As passionate as I am about Aperina Studios and wedding photography, I also love to film personal projects sometimes. I have done several projects for various churches but my biggest project happens every year during spring break when I go to a week-long missionary trip to Mexicali with Bayside Church. I have built great relations with many of the Bayside pastors and especially their media personel and it is always a pleasure working with passionate men of God and also great artists like Darren Takegami, Steve Batz, Brian Oxenham and Justin Boatman. I have been going to Mexicali with Bayside Church for three years and this year we had 1,000 people caravan in 160 minivans and trucks to Mexicali, Mexico to serve the people and make an impact. This "little army" of teenagers, college students and adults built 9 homes, served the poor by giving them food, encouraged many pastors and loved on thousands of little ninos. They spent their spring break doing what Jesus would do! I was honored to have witnessed and filmed the impact that was made in Mexico that weekend. All glory be to God....

27 Jun Vitaly & Sveta | engagement, wedding and SDS

Summers are crazy for us wedding photographers!! Mine was no different. I've been so busy lately with photographing many gorgeous wedding, doing different photo shoots and other little projects, but it's about time to update our blog with some new photos from an amazing wedding I did about a week ago.I photographed Vitaly and Sveta's gorgeous wedding on September 18 right after shooting another wedding the day before. With formated cards, fresh batteries, and a Rockstar energy drink the next morning I set out to the grooms house with an amazing feeling. I was really excited to shoot the wedding of my new friends but also as excited to use my tilt-shift lens. That Saturday was just one of those days where you just don't know where the ideas keep coming from. Vitaly, the groom, recently came to America and I thought that it would become an issue with the different styles but I was amazed at the modern mentality he had. They were both very stylish and knew how to pose, requiring only a little bit of correcting from my side. The engagement session was amazing, the wedding was gorgeous and very lovely, and the second-day-shoot (SDS) we did in San Francisco was very beautiful and sexy. This blog post tells the story of their wedding day and includes my favorite photos from each of the three photo shoots I did for this amazing couple. Enjoy...
