I love filming weddings and I love it even more when we get to travel with our team to new, beautiful places and capture the love stories of different cultures and religions. Ozma & Amer had their beautiful four day Pakistani wedding in Los Angeles, CA with the final day wedding reception at the gorgeous Hyatt Hotel on Huntington Beach. Our team packed up an SUV and headed to LA to film for four days. This was definitely an epic trip for us as we got to meet many friendly Pakistani people, got to try delicious new food, and got the privilege to work with an amazing couple who not only trusted us with filming their wedding but challenged us to edit and show a film of their wedding weekend on the wedding reception. Here is what we produced....

We have recently been filming more and more Indian weddings and by now we have really fallen in love with their colorful, rich culture. When Arun & Nishi initially met with us and wanted to do a same day edit video for their wedding reception, we were very excited for this challenge. Then they pulled out a little bigger challenge out of their pockets...

We had a chance to spend 3 days in Bay Area to capture this beautiful couples wedding. Their wedding was a mix of Indian culture and Chinese culture. It was amazing to be part of their wedding day capturing their story. Watching both families come together and hug was heart warming. It was a hot day in San jose and all of our cameras gave us overheating warning sign. I believe we did an amazing job with all of our team capturing all the footage we possibly could get in some of the roughest conditions. We created a short wedding film so you can enjoy their wedding story. Starting out with the initial meetings to filming for 6 days and photographing for 7 days, our relationship with Mandeep and Roop was simply amazing. Over time we became really good friends and as the bride wrote to us after the wedding, we kind of became part of their family throughout all the events. That feeling made our job so much more enjoyable as we worked closely with them to make sure that we capture their special days with intricate attention to all the details that surround an Indian wedding. We brought home over 1TB of footage and over 21,000 photos in the end. It was a definitely a challenge in many aspects which made us try harder and be more creative, but we loved every second of it. I am very lucky to love what I do! Even though we had a busy schedule during the days of their events but my brother and I decided to surprise the couple and all the guests with a Same Day Edit video to show at their reception. The feedback we got was 'speechless'. Roop, Mandeep and many of the guests came up to us after the wedding reception and couldn't stop talking about the short film they just saw...

It was an honor for us to be Mark and Lynelle's wedding cinematographers. We were booked more than 18 months before the wedding and by the time the wedding came, we've gotten to know them so well that we consider them our friends. We worked with them a few times before the wedding, filming their love story and a few more things. Getting to know them on a personal level made me understand again how important it is to know our clients on a personal level and not just a "professional" level. It allows us to be a little bit more involved in the wedding and create a beautiful film. Mark and Lynelle really wanted a Same Day Edit so that the wedding guests can get to know them and their story a little bit more. As a leading Sacramento wedding videography company, we were able to pull that off really well. We were set to show the Same Day Edit at 8:30pm. I started editing the SDE at 4pm. Around 6:30pm, I was basically done. I've never finished a Same Day Edit that fast! I spent an extra 45 minutes Color Grading and tweaking the Same Day Edit. It was time to show what our team has been working on all day and I was nervous (for no reason). I pressed play and watched the bride and groom tear up from joy and laughter while watching their story. I knew I have created a memory for them and their guests. It was a really humbling experience for me and my team. I do want to thank the Bride and Groom for giving me the opportunity to create their Wedding Story for them. I would also like to thank my awesome cinema team. Without them, the Same Day Edit would not be possible. We were also able to grab a few behind the scenes shots during the wedding. Enjoy. And we were able to grab a reaction shot of the bride when they were watching their Same Day Edit. This is a powerful time saver in FCPX. This "tiny" tip will save you countless hours while editing in FCPX. Simply sync all your camera and audio time to one time. You don't have to be 100% accurate, but the more accurate you are the better it is in the long run. This will help you a ton while editing and organizing your project. In the example provided here, you can see where have 2 different cameras (cameras P and Camera S - odd names, but they work). Note that the shots from that mini-session of the bride are right next to each other. And more importantly, event he shots that were filmed at the same time from multiple angles, they are next to each other. This helps me as and editor (who has also filmed this wedding), to really be able to see the available shots I have from a sequence of shots. It really allows me to be able to see the FULL spectrum of what we captured as a team and tell a perfect story. This works even better (the video details it a bit) when you have 2 cameras and an audio track. It really does save me a ton of time as I always get to see what is available for me in Final Cut Pro. ...

I've had a few friend ask me to make a Final Cut Pro 10 tutorial. So I decided to give it a try. Here is my first attempt at making a tutorial. So hopefully it's helpful. I will definitely be making a few more that are hopefully improved. This tutorial starts with my file organization/management setup that prepares the way for Final Cut Pro X and finishes with a FCPX project ready to start editing. Hope this helps answer some questions. Please comment if you have any questions (or if I missed some areas)....

When I first met James and Selina (via Skype), right away I wanted to be their wedding cinematographer! They were a fun and lovely couple - a perfect match. I love what I do. When the couple loves what we do as well, it makes me want to do so much better! That's why we came 1 hour early just to grab a few creative shots of the beautiful Venue. We loved everything about the wedding. The decorations, the flowers, and especially the Bride and Groom! We worked hard all day - telling their story through our cinematography. I hope you enjoy this short film that we have produced from James and Selina’s Wedding. Feel free to leave comments below if you enjoy the film and this amazing couple.

Capturing weddings during the middle of the week usually means the wedding is going to be small, elegant, and personal. That is exactly how Adrian & Christiana's wedding was. The handsome groom flew in from London. The gorgeous bride flew in from the Caribbean. The groomsman flew in from Sweden and the bridesmaid (with her husband) from Canada for this destination wedding. There were a total of five people present at the wedding (six with the officiant). This is exactly how the bride pictured her wedding. We at Aperina Studios came with our three crew members to bring the total number of people to 9. This was the smallest wedding I think we have ever photographed or filmed but we had such an amazing time capturing the intimate wedding elopement these five best friends were having in the beautiful Madrona Manor in Healdsburg, CA. Enjoy the Next Day Edit and expand the post the view a lot more photos! Filming a wedding at Firehouse, one of my favorite restaurant in Sacramento, was awesome. The trees casting their shadows over us on the wedding day was a relief as the temperature were above 108 F.  The couple simply enjoyed their day. They didn't stress. They just wanted to have fun and get married! Enjoy this short teaser of their story.

Five days, endless ceremonies and rituals. We were simply amazed by the beauty and majesty of this Indian Wedding. We have filmed many elaborate and fancy weddings, but nothing comes close to the decadence and attention to detail as an Indian wedding. No wonder it requires not one or two days, but more than five days to fit all the ceremonies and rituals in. For this same day edit, our goal was to make a 3 minute film jam-packed with emotions and stories. We wanted our audience to feel like they were present at all the days of the wedding, knowing everything that went on, even if they were never there. Of course, if they were not there, they were missing out on one heck of a party. Music, dancing, great ethnic food, and a beautiful bride and groom to top things off. We loved filming every aspect of the wedding, especially the reception. It was evident to all, that this couple was truly in love with one another. It was an honor capturing their special bond and being part of their BIG day. The groom's brother, Ankesh, convinced the family that they should hire Aperina Studios over any other Indian wedding videography company as he believed that we will tell the wedding story from a fresh and unique perspective. After the wedding, we had many guests come up encouraging us and telling us that we did an amazing job. It was a humbling experience. Arriving at the Reception venue to edit the Same Day Edit, I already knew that I will need to make it longer than the originally planned 3 minutes. Once again, I edited in Final Cut Pro X, honestly, the best editing software out there. It was flawless and blazing fast! I finished editing a few hours, before out 8pm deadline, So I color graded and even added a few more recent shots into it. It was a blast showing the SDE to the wedding guest. And now to you! Enjoy Parminder and Manpreet's Same Day Edit! AS SEEN ON MAHARNI WEDDINGS

We are super excited to post their Vizcaya Wedding story! Bryan & Zhanna are a lovely couple. Working with them and seeing how they connect with each other was not only joyful but also easy to film and tell their story. Their wedding took place at a beautiful venue in Sacramento, CA - Vizcaya. An antique venue that has character and emotion. I loved it. But enough of me blabbering, enjoy the short film. In the past few months, I have spent a lot of time talking to many editors. I've noticed that there are many workflows that wedding videographers and cinematographers use while editing their wedding films. One thing that I found shocking was that many editors are prone to a disaster. A disaster where they lose ALL their files. All the footage from a wedding and all their hard work that they put into a film. How many times have you heard "my hard drive crashed?" I've heard it plenty of times. I have even had to say that myself a few times. Here is a typical scenario that I see with many editors. They have one hard drive that they store all the footage on and they simply start editing and hope that their hard drive doesn't crash. Once they are finished with the project, they simply erase all the files and they are done. There are so many risks involved with this scenario and I humbly want to teach you how to keep your wedding footage and project files safe and secure. I use a combination of Hard Drives, RIAD systems and cloud storage. Here is my workflow...

Carlos and Victoria initially did not want to have video for their wedding. All wedding videos they saw before made them not want one for their wedding, but seeing a Same Day Edit on a friends wedding, they realized that they wanted a wedding video for themselves. So they booked the best wedding videography team (humble brag) 4 weeks before the wedding with a Same Day Edit. I was excited to do a Same Day Edit for them - but also nervous. I met up with the lovely couple at Starbucks where we talked a little and got to know each other. Listening to their funny story, I realized that their wedding is simply going to be fun and energetic. It was exactly that. I love doing Same Day Edits. They are stressful, they are hard, you get headaches, you barely eat, but best of all - the reactions from the bride, groom and the guests are totally worth it. Because the the morning prep, ceremony and reception were in different location, I was worried that I might not have enough time to edit. I left in the middle of the ceremony to the reception venue - copying cards to my MacBook on my way to Grand Island Mansion. Arriving at the beautiful Venue, I got straight to work. I knew that show time was at 9pm and I had less than 4 hours to edit. I simply spent the first 45 min. organizing all the footage. I usually get straight to editing, but I knew that organization will allow me to find shots 4x faster. I was editing away in Final Cut Pro X ( I love FCP X - It did not crash once!). At 8:15, my edit was completed. I set the Same Day Edit to Export, grabbed a camera and helped my team film fire dancers and fireworks at the back of the Grand Island Mansion. I was excited for show time! At 9:00pm, everyone moved inside into the mansion, we dimmed the lights and pressed play! A few seconds into the film, I knew everyone loved it. Especially the bride and groom. The Grand Island Mansion wedding...
